Sometimes in life we know things are coming. (And I am not talking just about taxes.)
Even so, when something we expected actually does happen, we are just as surprised and overjoyed as if we had no clue about it being imminent.
Last night, two of my son’s friends got engaged (to each other). And yes we were surprised, even though this has been years in the making. It was a special joy because aside from them both being good friends of my son’s we have all been living in the same community for about 15 years. One set of parents lives two houses down from us and the other lives a few blocks away and are really close friends.
I wish the young couple lots of joy and happiness. A life of love built on mutual respect and communication.
And of course a great big congratulations to them, their families and all their friends.

I know that I should have expected my kids and their friends to grow up, but I have to say I am quite surprised how fast they have grown up.
